As a company, we understand the importance of protecting the environment. We have been making many efforts in this area, and we wanted to let you know some of what has been accomplished.
REDUCE: RECYCLING & MATERIALS
· We recycle all glass, cardboard, and paper at both our restaurant locations and at our central plant facility.
· We ship our products to most vendors in reusable plastic racks, instead of cardboard.
· Where possible, we maintain pallet exchanges with vendors, to reduce the use of wood.
· We also use reusable plastic pallets when possible, which have a much longer life than wood pallets.
· Liquid products, such as chowders, sauces, and dressings are shipped to our restaurants in plastic 110 oz containers, which are sanitized and reused. These replace our old system of disposable cardboard containers.
· All office related consumables, such as toner and ink cartridges are recycled.
SUSTAIN: ENERGY REDUCTIONS
· We have completed energy audits at our locations, and are in the process of replacing our older fixtures with new, high-energy efficient fixtures and bulbs.
· We have installed various energy-saving control systems that govern our heating and cooling in our restaurants, as well as putting economizers in place to reduce energy consumption.
· Unneeded lights and equipment are continually monitored and turned off.
· We are gradually replacing all computers and peripherals with Energy-Star Compliant models.
THRIVE:
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REDUCTION
· Coolants used in our refrigeration have been replaced with more environmentally-sensitive refrigerants.
· Woodchips used in our two large smokers exceed all emissions requirements.
· Fleet washing services are performed by a company that recaptures all runoff.
· Floors are steam-cleaned whenever possible to reduce the use of chemicals.
· All company vehicles are on a strict maintenance schedule, with a focus on reducing emissions.
· Water is served only on request in all restaurants.
· All grease and oil used in the restaurants is re-claimed and processed.
· We continue to increase the number of farmed products that we serve.
Colorado Expansion of APL:
Our APL Product Line distribution is growing again! Starting in June 2007, our packaged fresh fish and our complete product line began being carried in four military commissaries in Colorado, with two more coming on-line shortly after.
The fresh fish is sent via air freight, three times a week, and the products aree driven by our distributor on trucks twice a week. It was an exciting milestone for us to expand beyond Southern California and into other states. This can only help spread the word about our great restaurants across the country!
Our first order consisted of over 200 cases of APL products, and close to 1,500 pounds of fish! Our amazing Commissary and Fish Market team members were able to prepare this increased quantity without adding any team members or generating any significant overtime.
All About SCULPIN
Sculpin is a fish that most restaurants do not serve. Sculpin have sharp tips on their fins that are poisonous and can cause a painful burning sensation if you get stung. They are also quite bony. Despite these “features”, there is one more thing about sculpin: they are quite delicious!
Anthony’s has served sculpin since we first opened our doors back in 1946. It has become a favorite of our guests, and many people wait for it!
The extra care we take in handling the sculpin makes this delicious favorite a breeze to cook, order and enjoy. We are one of the only restaurants in town that regularly features this delicacy of the deep on our menu.
We’re Voted BEST Again!
We are excited to announce that Anthony’s has yet again been voted as the BEST SEAFOOD in San Diego by the readers of the San Diego Union Tribune. This makes ELEVEN years in a row that we have been awarded this honor.
We want to thank every team member. All the hard work you put in every day is the key ingredient to enable us to win awards like this. From the moment a guest walks in until they walk out, deeply satisfied, you all make sure that every experience is a positive one.
Thank you again for your efforts. We would not be San Diego’s favorite without you!
Way to Walk, Team Anthony’s!

On April 29, 2007, over 40 Anthony’s team members, friends and family came together as Team Rubber Sole, and walked in the Multiple Sclerosis Walk.
Working as a team, we accomplished a lot! We collectively raised $5,507 as a team, which helped the San Diego MS Society raise $2.6 million for research and services.
We were also recognized by the National MS Society as a Platinum Fundraising Team. Best of all, the local chapter awarded us a special award for being the “coolest team”. (Was there ever any doubt that Anthony’s is the coolest?)
Thank you to all who walked, and to all who donated. Walking as a team not only raised money for a good cause, but was fun. (Plus a little exercise is never a bad thing!) If you missed out on being part of Team Rubber Sole, don’t worry. You’ll have other opportunities to walk for a cause soon!
